🌿 What Does Spirituality Mean in a Coaching Session?
When people hear the word spirituality, they often bring their own associations—some comforting, others confusing or even painful. In my coaching practice, I meet clients who identify as spiritual, agnostic, religious, nature-connected, or unsure entirely. All of that is welcome.
So what do I mean when I speak of spirituality in coaching? And how does it actually show up in a session?
Let’s start with a simple definition:
Spirituality is our capacity to be present to what is, and receptive to something greater than ourselves.
This might mean being receptive to:
Life as it actually is, rather than how we want it to be
Another person, in their truth, without trying to fix or change them
Inner knowing, grace, or insight that seems to arise spontaneously
A sense of connection to nature, to the body, to mystery, or to meaning
Importantly, this form of spirituality is not about dogma or belief. It's about presence, openness, and trust in your own unfolding experience.
